Hi friends. In continuation with my previous post, today i'll like to post a review on how to quit smoking.

Let,s take a step by step approach.

First and most important, the individual himself or herself should first decide to STOP SMOKING.I believe applying restriction on an individual doesn't help. One should decide individually, that this is the last cigarette he or she smokes. But this decision is perhaps the most difficult part to achieve.

To achieve this we require an internal urge to leave this harmful addiction.Help may also be taken from trained counselors in this field.Psychological & behavioral support has a great role to play in this respect.Help from family members,co-workers,friends is also required.Politely tell your friends who smoke, not to smoke in front of you.

Certain medications
are also available to help to quit smoking.

NICOTINE REPLACEMENT THERAPY:is available in the form of gums, skin patch, nasal spray etc. These drugs reduce the craving.Nicotine replacement therapy should preferably be avoided in pregnant women, individuals under the age of 18,individuals with heart ailment.

Bupropion:is an anti-depressant that also has a role to play in reducing the craving for smoking. This drug also has a number of significant side effects. It lowers the seizure thresh-hold,so it should be avoided in individual with history of seizure or epilepsy. It should also be better to avoid this drug in pregnancy.

Varenicline:This is a new drug on the block, recently approved by FDA.This is a partial nicotinic receptor agonist that decreases the craving and pleasurable effects associated with smoking. It is claimed to be superior to the aforementioned therapies. It also has a number of side effects like flatulance, constipation, sleep difficulties, bad dreams, neuropsychiatric symptoms.

SO, BEFORE STARTING ANY DRUG THERAPY TO STOP SMOKING BE DOUBLY SURE TO CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN,PREFERABLY A PSYCHIATRIST.DON'T START THESE DRUGS BY YOURSELF.

MESSAGE FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE STOPPED SMOKING:Please help others to stop smoking and spread the knowledge regarding the damaging effects of smoking.

A very good looking blog. I am not so talented technically. I have started a new blog http://smokingquithelp.blogspot.com/ in relation to my quit program. Can you please give me your opinion on the same?
