This post is actually a reply to one of my friend's concern regarding Buspar one of the several brand names of buspirone available in the market. There are many other brand names for buspirone like buspimen, buspimol etc.

It is a anxiolytic drug[drugs used in the treatment of anxiety].It's chemical structure is un-related to the more commonly used anti-anxiety drug the benzodiazepines[like diazepam, clonazepam etc.]

Unlike the benzodiazepines it has no dependence or drug tolerance property.Drug tolerance can be commonly explained as a property of certain drugs in which by continued use of the drug, the individual becomes tolerant to it's action.

Buspirone is a selective serotonin agonist that alters the serotonin system of the brain.

It's main indication is generalised anxiety disorder.Sometimes it may also be used to increase the effect of SSRIs in depression.in ADHD[attention deficit hyperactivity disorder]

vertigo,headache,light-headedness,nausea,agitation[these are more common]

The other less common side-effects that occur seldom are confusion, tingling and numbness sensation of the body[paraesthesia],tremor, confusion, psychosis, hallucination, drowsiness, insomnia, angina pectoris tachycardia, palpitation, allergy etc.But these side-effects occur rarely.

Buspirone should be avoided in individuals with severe liver & kidney disease, heart disease etc.Concomitant use of buspirone and MAO-inhibitors should be avoided.

Please remember Buspirone is a prescription drug, & should never be taken without the
proper prescription of a registered medical practitioner.

For any more questions on buspirone please consult your doctor or you may post a comment.

Type 1 diabetes mellitus takes place due to autoimmune destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas, which produces insulin.Autoimmune destruction in general terms mean that certain antibodies are produced within our body against the beta cells which selectively destroys these cells.Type 1 diabetes may occur at any age,but usually occur after the age of 30.

Type 2 diabetes occurs due to a variety of causes like variable degrees of insulin resistance, glucose overproduction.,reduced insulin secretion. 2 diabetes develops with increasing age.

In my coming posts i will take up diabetes in a more elaborate manner.
